Chapter 2 Page 34

EASTER EGG!

If you pay attention to panel 5, you’ll notice I stuck a webcomic character cameo there: Cally from Spy6Teen. Drawing crowd scenes can be tough because I want to give the people in the scene their own individual look, but I don’t want to spend all day designing extras. The simple answer is to drop in a cameo. Cameo characters are a lot more fun than just drawing random military person #38. It allows me to show my appreciation for the other person’s work and it allows me to share the work with you so that you can become a fan too.

Depending on how many crowd scenes appear in the comic, don’t be surprised if even more cameos show up. Have a cameo you’d like to suggest to me? Drop a line! I always welcome the chance to showcase other creators’ characters for fun stuff like this.

Probably not a wise move…

No one ever accused Leon of being wise. He may have depth as a character but he’s still a dufus.

Wow. Are those fractures on that datapad screen? Did Leon just ruin the equivalent of an iPad? Or a newspaper? Or did he just ruin hours of Trey’s work?

Leon ruined the equivalent of an Amazon Kindle. Nothing too fancy with media, but holds lots and lots of information electronically.

You’ll notice Trey wasn’t actually typing on it. It’s more of a digital collection of journals he was researching to understand the anomalous signal better. The work is salvageable. Data shards are made of pretty hard stuff to survive flights in a Raven jet, but Trey would likely be more concerned with the monetary value of the datapad. Remember it’s not his. And his company will dock his pay for it. That’ll be brought up again later.

To crack something like that one someone’s head must have either been a very cheap pad, or a REALLY thick skull.

julesrivera on 02.03.2012 @ 07:47 Reply

It actually doesn’t take much force to crack one those datapads. The screen is glass, which is pretty easy to crack at the right angle of force, and the shell would be cheap plastic. Also, Leon’s pretty strong, so it stands to reason he could throw it with enough force to cause a crack like that.

Even then, that’s concussion material.

Yes, it is. This scene is not intended for slapstick. There will be consequences for this.

Hey, I really enjoy this comic, but due to the RSS feed only updating for news posts and not comic updates, I keep falling behind. I guess I’m asking if it would be possible to have comic updates in the feed too in the future?

Anyways, thank you for the awesome comic. :)

julesrivera on 02.04.2012 @ 21:03 Reply

I apologize for the feed being broken. Since the site blew up in December, the feed hasn’t been functioning properly. I thought I was going to get more help between here and then, but that hasn’t materialized so I’ll work on an alternate solution very soon.

Thanks for your patience.

HA! I figured it out. Update your RSS link to http://www.valkyriesquadron.com/category/valkyrie/feed/ and that should show the last ten page updates. I’ll post this link on the main page as well. Thanks for your patience!
